Labor Day in Park City is Miners Day: what that weekend actually does to Main Street

The rest of the country treats Monday as a federal holiday. You should treat September 5–7 as the weekend that tests how you actually get to an Old Town address.

If you own, or are about to own, on Main Street, Park Avenue, Swede Alley, or lower Old Town, this is not optional color. Saturday is Park City Point 2 Point, sold out at 425 racers, running through two resorts. Sunday is Park Silly Sunday Market, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Historic Main Street. Monday is Park City Miners Day 2026. Labor Day everywhere else, the 130th year of Park City’s longest-running civic event, with roots the parade page traces to 1896.

You are not looking at a holiday weekend. You are looking at the annual stress test of 84060 living: street closures, Special Event Access Passes, paid vs. satellite parking, fare-free transit, and whether your property sits on the parade/market corridor or a few blocks off it.

Monday is Park City Miners Day 2026, not leftover Labor Day

The Park Record’s July 1 preview put it plainly: Miners Day is what the rest of the country calls Labor Day. Mark Monday, September 7, 2026.

The official hour-by-hour, from the Miners Day schedule:

• 7:30–9:30 a.m. — Miners Day Breakfast at City Park (Saint Mary’s Catholic Church hosts)
• 10:30 a.m. — Running of the Balls on Main Street (Park City Rotary Club fundraiser)
• 11:00 a.m. — Parade: the length of Main Street, then Park Avenue, down to City Park

Parade registration closed Wednesday, September 2 at 5 p.m. You are watching, not lining up. After the parade, City Park holds the rest of the day: food trucks, live music, mucking and drilling, and a Miners & Memories open house at Miners Hospital, noon–4 p.m.

That corridor is the ownership question. If your address is on it, you live inside the event. If you are a few blocks off, you still live inside the access system.

Access is the whole brief

The city’s engineering/right-of-way calendar already lists Labor/Miner’s Day Weekend: Saturday–Monday, September 5–7, 2026. Treat the three days as one municipal operations window, not a single parade hour.

Search indexes still show 2026 city copy saying Main Street and Park Avenue close 6 a.m.–1 p.m. on September 7 for the parade. The live municipal Miners Day page 404’d as of August 28. Do not treat those hours as live-verified. Check the city community-information page that week, and do not invent extra closed streets from last year’s map.

Special Event Access Passes are how residents and businesses get through checkpoints to a home or business during major events. They are not parking passes. During hard closures, you will not drive through closed roads even with a pass.

Passes for 2026 events went out door-to-door in December 2025. They are valid for all major events and good for the entire year, including Park Silly Sunday Market and Miners Day (also Savor the Summit, Fourth of July, Kimball Arts Festival, and Halloween on Main). If yours is lost, the Special Events team at City Hall, 445 Marsac Avenue, confirms the address.

Text PCEVENTS to 888777. That is the city’s alert channel. Use it.

Parking rates go up on event weekends. That is the headline. The live city page does not publish a 2026 Miners Day dollar table, and I am not going to invent one. The city’s stated preference is satellite lots plus fare-free Park City Transit. Check the community-information page that week for the actual rate sheet. Do not cut through residential streets looking for a workaround.

Park City Transit has run fare-free since 1975. On this weekend, that is not a lifestyle flourish. It is how you get to an Old Town address when Main Street is a parade route. Confirm routes and detours closer to the weekend; do not assume last year’s extra-frequency map still holds.

Sunday is still Main Street, just a different kind of closed

Park Silly Sunday Market is 10 a.m.–5 p.m., rain or shine, free to walk. Remaining 2026 dates after today: September 6, 13, 20, and 27. September 6 is the Labor Day–weekend market.

KPCW reported that about 180,000 people attended the 2025 market. That is last year’s volume, not a 2026 projection. Labor Day Sunday was one of the peak days in 2025.

If you own on or just off lower Main, plan for a car-free morning. If you are showing property this weekend, do not schedule a Main Street walkthrough during market hours without a walking or transit plan. If you are still shopping 84060, this is the Sunday to walk the corridor before you write an offer on a Main Street address. You will learn more about lock-and-leave Old Town in four hours of Park Silly than in a quiet Tuesday showing.

The new permanent thing turns on the same Monday

The Park City Historic Mine Route opens to the public on Miners Day, September 7. This is not a one-weekend pop-up. It is a new community asset on existing Mountain Trails Foundation trails and Summit Land Conservancy easements.

Across the official site and Park Record coverage (Aug. 17) and (Aug. 20): 24 historic sites, about 7 miles for the full loop, 1,200 feet of elevation gain, and a free TravelStorys GPS audio guide. The loop starts at the Park City Museum, climbs Treasure Hill on Park City Mountain to the Silver King Mining Complex, drops through Empire Canyon, and returns to the Museum.

Sign counts differ by source. The official HMR site lists 18 interpretive signs; the Aug. 20 Park Record story describes 11 new interpretive signs and 80 wayfinding signs. I am not picking a number. The 24 sites, the mileage, the elevation, and the September 7 opening are consistent.

Colleen Logan, speaking for Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History in the July 1 Park Record: after the parade, “That’s the thing to do… go and take a great hike.” If you own in Old Town, Empire, or lower Deer Valley, you are buying into a trail system that is now also an interpreted historic landscape. Saturday is already spoken for

Park City Point 2 Point is Saturday, September 5. The 2026 race is sold out, cap 425. Expect trail congestion and racer traffic around the two resorts. That is Saturday’s access problem, separate from Sunday’s market and Monday’s parade.

Tour des Suds is September 13, not this Sunday. Mass start 10 a.m. from City Park. If a visitor calendar still shows it on September 6, ignore it. Use the Mountain Trails Foundation page.

What this weekend tells you about the house

If you already own in 84060, this is when you find out whether you bought a lock-and-leave walkable base or a house that fights you every event. Access Passes in the glove box. Transit as the default, not the backup. Guests who can walk or bus. A showing calendar that does not pretend Main Street is a through-street on September 6 and 7.

If you are under contract or still shopping Main Street, Park Avenue, or lower Old Town, walk it this weekend. Confirm how you actually get to the door when the city is running Miners Day and Park Silly. Event access is due diligence, not atmosphere.
